We recently interviewed Kelly Nicholls as part of our 'Two Minutes With' series. The series aims to bring together some of our team members for informative and enlightening interviews - all in short, sharp two minute reads.
What is your job title?
Account Manager, Ashfield Meetings & Events
How long have you worked for Ashfield Meetings & Events?
Previously a client for two years, I have now been a part of Ashfield for about six months.
How have you seen healthcare meetings and events evolve during your career?
Technology has always been a crucial element within meeting and events and it means we have to constantly keep up with the latest and greatest trends. Although fads come and go, utilizing technology correctly, for the right reasons, allows us to plan more efficiently, reduce cost, and maximize attendee engagement, allowing our clients and stakeholders to have the most up-to-date and accurate data. It will be interesting to see how technology evolves over the next ten years and how it will provide clients with even more valuable insights.
Did you always know that you wanted to work in events? What drew you to the industry?
Yes, hands down! I’ve always enjoyed planning meetings / events & don’t know what else I would do. Plus the satisfaction after the meeting has ended is thrilling!
Biggest achievement/proudest moment?
My proudest moment was working with an in-house pharma company during several drug launches. I had the pleasure of seeing first-hand the impact these new drugs had on patients and it has forever changed me.
What are your priorities for the next two years at AM&E?
One of my main priorities is my team. When we are all in sync, functioning at a high level, supporting one another, that’s when the real magic happens – delivering flawless meetings and events. I will also be diving deeper into my role by actively listening to our clients to better understand their challenges and provide them with more full-service solutions where appropriate across our creative, production, venue sourcing and exhibits services.
Lastly, who doesn’t love a little friendly competition? I’d love to take home the title of 2019 Employee of the Year!
Which speaker has most impressed you at an event/exhibition and why?
I had the privilege of seeing Alyssa Dver, CEO and co-founder of the American Confidence Institute, speak at a conference. She was so relatable, engaging, and energetic that I immediately wrote down her contact information and began reading her book! I want her to be my aunt so I can call randomly for a boost of confidence/positivity.
Name some of the ways you create an impact within your day-to-day role?
I’d like to think I create an impact everyday by supporting my team who are the ones on the ground ensuring our clients have successful meetings. Even though I’m not directly working on new drugs, the work we do at Ashfield indirectly affects our clients, allowing them to focus on the big picture and the outcome of their patients’ lives.
What advice would you give someone starting out in the meetings and events industry?
I would tell them that the pre, onsite and post-event planning process requires a lot of hard work and commitment but the results are always worth it. When you finally see the look on a client’s face when everything comes together after months and months of planning and hard work, it makes everything worth it! Plus, it helps to work with a team of hardworking, creative and inspiring individuals like I do. It’s an extremely fun and rewarding career.
